A toothbrush may not reach the tight spaces between teeth. Cleaning between your teeth helps remove food debris and plaque from these areas as part of a daily oral care routine.
Why clean between your teeth?
Plaque can collect between teeth and around the gumline, where it may contribute to tooth decay and gum problems. Daily interdental cleaning helps reach these areas that brushing alone can miss.
How often should I floss?
Aim to clean between your teeth once a day. You can use dental floss, tape, or another interdental cleaner. The right option depends on the spaces between your teeth and your needs; your dentist or hygienist can help you choose.
How to floss gently
- Guide the floss gently between two teeth. Avoid snapping it into the gums.
- Curve it around one tooth in a C shape and move it gently up and down, including just beneath the gumline.
- Repeat against the neighbouring tooth, then use a clean section of floss for the next space.
If floss is difficult to use, ask about floss holders, interdental brushes, or other options that may suit you.
